Mitch the Melon

John & I took a baby care basics class tonight and it was a total crash course on all the diapering, swaddling and feeding we'll be doing over the next 6 months to a year! We are such big dorks... we were late to class, John cracked some dumb jokes and I was the nervous new mom-to-be who asked way too many questions.

Anyway, our baby boy is still packing on the pounds — at the rate of about an ounce a day. He now weighs almost 6 pounds (like a crenshaw melon) and is more than 18 1/2 inches long. At the end of this week, our baby will be considered full-term. Most of his systems (from circulatory to musculoskeletal) are ready for prime time, though his digestion system — which has done only practice runs so far — will kick into gear at his first feeding.
